  On the way to Sail and Anchor we stumbled across the Newport Hotel and decided to give it a go because there were ribs on the menu. In hindsight we should have paid attention not to the menu but to the lack of patrons having lunch here.
  The hotel itself is big, clean and offers a range of entertainment options. The service was acceptable but nothing to rave about. However, since it was a Monday lunch when we ate there was no reason for us to have to wait at the bar when there were no other patrons waiting for beer.
  The menu was full of promise but missed the mark; the pineapple on the Hawaiian pizza was sour and dry (did the kitchen use a fresh pineapple in winter because these were not canned pineapples), the tuna melt was nothing spectacular while the pork ribs were nothing short of abysmal. These ribs were, and still are, the only ribs that I have ever left unfinished unless I was stuffed. For starters the cut was very thick, they were overcooked to the point where the flesh was dry and crumbly meaning their flavour was lost and the fat had melted away, and the sauce was so meagre that it had no influence on the meat. And finally, the plate held only 4 ribs. Had they not been so thickly cut I would have handed the plate back. On the plus side the chips that accompanied the ribs were well cooked and the drinks were cold.
  Despite it's central location and cleanliness I won't be skipping the Sail and Anchor for this place again.

  Affordable. Fun. Food was quick and easy to order over any bar. Bar staff a pleasure to be served by as well as product knowledge. Many different zones of entertainment. Quite the all round venue honestly :)
